A sick Brooklyn soccer coach with a record of child sex abuse stretching back to at least 2005 was sentenced Wednesday to four years in prison for molesting a 9-year-old boy on his team.
Pablo Pineda, 41, pleaded guilty earlier this month in Brooklyn Supreme Court to inappropriately touching the boy and showing him pornography after soccer practice in a bathroom at Friends Field in Midwood on East 4th Street near Avenue L on several occasions between July 1, 2017, and April 27, 2018.
The boy’s mother went to the police on June 20, 2018, after she found texts to her son from an unknown number asking if the boy could go to the movies and not to tell his mother, prosecutors said.
Pineda was arrested the next day, and investigators found he also molested a teenage relative between May and June 2018.
“This defendant’s actions are an upsetting and shocking betrayal of trust,” Brooklyn District Attorney Eric Gonzalez said in a news release. “This defendant molested a boy on his team and his own relative, who both had every expectation to believe they would be safe with him.”
Pineda was previously convicted of sexually abusing a child in Texas in 2005 and was deported to an unspecified country, but somehow got back into the US.
He was ordered to register as a sex offender in Texas, but failed to register as an offender in New York, prosecutors said.
