A Camarillo man was charged Friday in connection with sex crimes involving children, according to Ventura County Superior Court records.
Michael Scott, 26, was charged with seven felonies related to possession of child pornography, sexually assaulting a child and trying to gain access to another child for the purpose of sex, records show.
Scott pleaded not guilty to the allegations.
According to a news release from the Ventura County Sheriff's Office, officials in the Minnesota Human Trafficking Investigators Task Force told sheriff's detectives that Scott "was possibly engaging in conversation with an undercover officer about paying money to gain access to a juvenile for the purposes of committing sex acts." They were notified of the incident on Tuesday.
Investigators from across the county then began looking into the report. They located Scott on Wednesday and served a search warrant at his house, where evidence was discovered allegedly connecting him to the reported attempts, authorities said.
Detectives also suspected Scott sexually assaulted a 5-year-old girl from Ventura, sheriff's officials said.
Scott has been held in the Ventura County jail since his arrest on Wednesday. His bail was set at $2 million.
