A young Muslim woman sobbed as she relived being tortured repeatedly at a Bosnian Serb camp and raped night after night eight years ago.  She was raped so many times she lost count.  The woman told how she and other girls were passed from soldier to soldier, each of whom raped them for weeks in the summer of 1992.  She recounted gang rapes and threats to cut the shape of a cross into her flesh.  She was 15 years old at the time.  The woman is identified only as witness

Rape was once regarded as a byproduct of war and rarely punished. A significant precedent onaccountability was set when a federal jury in Manhattan awarded Bosnian rape victims $745 million.This is a key step in the growing tend toward allowing any country to have jurisdiction over warcrimes that occurred elsewhere. Dragan Nikolic, 43, a Bosnian Serb detention camp commander pleaded innocent today to 80 counts of rape, torture, murder and other war crimes more than five years after he was indicted by a UN tribunal.  The indictment charges him with war crimes, crimes against humanity and grave breaches of the Geneva Conventions.  If he is found guilty of any single charge, he could be sentenced to life in prison.

Prosecutors decided last month to increase the charges against former Deputy Prime Minister Radoslav Brdjanin,51, and Military Chief Momir Talic, 57, two of the highest ranking officials who are accused of organizing the expulsion of Croats and Muslims from northwestern Bosnia in 1992.  The former Bosnian Serb officials pleaded not guilty on Tuesday to 11 new war crimes charges, including genocide.  Both are accused of masterminding one of the bloodiest campaigns of the 1992-95 Bosnian conflict, torturing, murdering and expelling thousands from the Prijedor region in northwest Bosnia in 1992.
