Long Island Corrections Officer Swipes $110K in Payments Meant for Wife’s Back Surgery: DA

A Long Island corrections officer swiped $110,096 in insurance checks intended for his estranged wife’s back surgery, authorities say.

Christopher Kowalewski, 49, of Merrick stole 11 of his wife’s New York State Empire Plan reimbursement checks — with values ranging from $92,488 to $147 — for her March 2022 operation and used the dough for personal expenses, according to Nassau District Attorney Anne Donnelly.

Kowalewski allegedly cashed two of the checks and deposited the other

Bloods Gang Members, Alleged LI Gang Leader in Georgia, Charged in New Indictment with Shootings, Robberies, Prosecutors Say

Four men, identified as Long Island Bloods gang members, were charged in an indictment Thursday in a series of shootings, drug crimes and robberies, along with a Long Island leader of the gang in Georgia, federal prosecutors said.

Dwayne Murray, 33, Kendrick Seymore, 22, both of Coram, Lavalle Wilson, 30, of Shirley, and Sheim Tevin Ramsey-Davis, 26, of Augusta, Georgia, were named in a 46-count indictment that included charges of racketeering and racketeering conspiracy,

Mental Health Facility Worker Accused of Groping Long Island Girl Who Was Missing for Weeks

A worker at a New York state-run mental health facility was arrested for allegedly having sexual contact with a Long Island teen who was receiving treatment after going missing for nearly a month, according to court records and reports.

DeShaun McClean, 42, became the ninth person charged in connection to the disturbing case after he allegedly groped the 14-year-old girl and watched her engage in sexual activity during her time at the facility

Suffolk DA: Arrest Made in 2003 Fatal Beating of 88-year-old Bay Shore Woman

An arrest has been made in the fatal beating of an 88-year-old woman in Bay Shore that happened over two decades ago.

Edna Schubert was found dead in her Frederick Avenue home in December 2003.

The suspect has not yet been named.

The Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office says it will announce Friday how investigators caught the accused killer.

$5M Settlement Reached to Resolve Former LI Coach’s Alleged Sexual Misconduct

It comes following a 2021 report naming over a dozen former players who accused Paul Riley, a former coach for LIU Post, of sexual coercion.
