John J. Nelson, a 43 year old upstate man, was arrested Wednesday night in East Hampton as part of a police sting to catch online predators.  He began communicating in an Internet chat room with an undercover East Hampton officer several days ago, believing her to be a 14 year old girl.  He arranged to meet her in East Hampton, where he planned to pick her up and take her back to his hotel room in Ronkonkoma to engage in sexual acts.  Nelson is charged with first degree attempted dissemination of indecent material to minors.  If convicted, her faces 1 1/3 to 4 years in prison.  He was arraigned yesterday and is being held on $5,000 cash bail.  He is due back in court on Thursday.
