Samuel Phillips forced the young mother to have sex in her own home and told her he would carry on until she moaned. She told him to stop but he carried on and she covered her face with a pillow so she did not have to look at him.
She was already terrified of him because he had attacked her and given her two black eyes on a previous occasion.
Phillips, now of Imperial Road, Exmouth, and formerly West Down, Ilfracombe, was jailed after the brave victim confronted him at Exeter Crown Court and read out an impact statement which revealed how his rape had left her with PTSD.
She said: "I really hope he will go to prison because I know what a dangerous man he is. Things have changed with his conviction, but they have not got easier.
"I haven't gone one day without thinking about what he did to me. The things he did will live with me forever. It is exhausting and I am so tired. I feel vulnerable. I am sick of doubting everyone.
"The smallest things upset me. The other day I jumped when a woman in the street hiccupped as she walked past me.
"I feel massive relief at being believed by a jury of 12 strangers. The relief is overwhelming. I am reassured he cannot harm anyone else. I hope I have helped to protect other people."
Phillips denied rape and causing actual bodily harm but was convicted at a trial in October.
He was jailed for eight years by Judge Peter Johnson, who put him on the sex offenders register for life and made a restraining order banning any contact with the victim.
He said: "You raped her and admitted what you had done to her immediately afterwards. Unfortunately you did not admit it to the police. The effects of actions were graphically clear when the victim bravely read her impact statement.
"You still deny these proven matters and have shown not a jot of remorse."
During the trial the woman told how Phillips was visiting her home in South Molton in late 2015 when he raped her and carrying on when she told him to stop.
He told her he would carry on until she moaned but she said she could not do it and put pillow over her face so she did not have to look at him.
He eventually stopped but told her 'I'm a rapist', later laughing about the assault.
The rape happened in 2015 when Phillips was on an electronic tag while awaiting trial for other assaults, for which he later received a suspended sentence.
The case was delayed for more than two years because he suffered serious leg injuries from falling off a ladder and was not well enough to stand trial.
Mr William Parkhill, defending, said Phillips suffers from a personality order and was experiencing poor mental illness at the time of the offences. He was also young and immature.
He was working as a cleaner at a holiday park at the time but has been unable to work since. He has moved away from North Devon and has been living with his current girlfriend for 18 months.
