SEX OFFENDER RESIDENCY BILL FAILS
2006
A bill that would have restricted sex offenders from living within a half-mile of their victims failed to pass out of committee, to the disappointment of the bill's author, Senator Judy Robson, D-Beloit. The legislation pertains to sex offenders who are on probation or parole and whose victims request to be notified about the offender's release into the community. The bill had passed the Senate in March. Robson proposed the legislation last year after being approached by a Janesville woman whose child was sexually assaulted and the offender was allowed to live next door.
