Now that major social networking sites including Facebook, MySpace and Flickr have removedmore
than 4,300 registered sex offenders from their rolls after checking names against New York
state's registry, state Attorney General Andrew Cuomo is encouraging sites that have online
communities for children to follow suit, such as, Webkinz and Teen Second Life. New York'slaw
requires sex offenders to register their e-mail accounts, screen names and nay otherInternet
identifiers with the state. A state law also generally prevents various offenders on parole,
probation or conditional discharge from using the Internet to contact anyone under 18 or goto
