CLEVELAND — A man facing charges connected to a rape in Cleveland is being held on $1 million bond.
26-year-old Dominic Booker made his first court appearance in the case Monday morning to face charges of rape and burglary. In this particular case, Booker is accused in the rape of a 31-year-old woman.
He was arrested last week and formally charged Friday.
Police also say DNA evidence has linked Booker to a 2018 sexual assault case, and court records show two prior felony convictions and a parole violation. He has allegedly been on the run from the latter after it occurred last year.
His case comes following a series of burglaries and sexual assaults that have recently terrorized the city's Miles neighborhood.
Police are investigating three other potential suspects, but names were not released. Booker has not been connected to two recent burglaries that occurred in the Miles neighborhood.
Last week, police confirmed a fourth recent incident, in which a man living in the 4300 block of E. 144th Street reported hearing his dining room air conditioner being rattled sometime between 10:30 and 11 p.m. Monday. The man said he walked outside and "startled" another male, who was wearing all black with a black mask. The suspect — described only as "shorter" — fled over the fence toward another home, where police say a rape occurred that night.
This followed a series of incidents allegedly committed by a man matching the same description in the same neighborhood. A 7-year-old girl on Caine Avenue says a man came into her home two weeks ago (also by removing the AC unit) and got into bed with her before she called for her mom.
Williams said the investigation continues on the incident involving the 7-year-old.
This past Monday, a man also allegedly stared at a 27-year-old woman through her window on E. 144th Street and a 31-year-old woman was raped later that night, apparently the same night of the reported incident with the man's AC.
During one of the alleged burglaries, a witness described him as being around 5-foot-9 with a ski mask and a black hooded sweatshirt that had a small logo on the left chest, possibly a Polo logo. In addition, three plastic tips to Black and Mild cigars were found near one of the homes.
Neighborhood resident Tenisha Lloyd is hopeful the right man is in custody.
"We deserve to be safe in our homes and feel safe in our neighborhood," she told Channel 3 Friday.
