ANGER OVER SEX OFFENDER’S SMALL SENTENCE

Richard Thompson, a 50 year old convicted child molester, was sentenced to 10 years probation instead of the 10 years behind bars that he could have received.  Cheyenne County District Judge Kristine Cecava told the 5 foot 1 man that his crimes deserved a long prison sentence but that he was too small to survive in a state prison.  Nebraska Attorney General Jon Bruning called the sentence excessively lenient and said his office was working on an immediate appeal.  Thompson was convicted for sexually assaulting a 13 year old girl.
