The US Senate today voted to renew the Debbie Smith Act, which has increased the use of DNAand helped solve thousands of open rape cases.  The five-year extension was previously passedby the House, and is now headed to the president to be signed into law.

Authorities are searching for a group of suspects wanted in what’s being described as a gangrape of a 19 year old female UC Santa Barbara student. The woman said she was beaten and sexuallyassaulted by several men early Sunday morning somewhere between campus and the neighboringcommunity of Isla Vista.  Authorities are hoping that someone may have seen or heard somethingthat will help them with the investigation.  Anyone with information was asked to callinvestigators at 805-681-4171.
