CHRISTOPHER STEPHENSON: CANADA

Christopher's Law, named for 11 year old Christopher Stephenson of Canada, who was killed in 1988 by a convicted pedophile who was out on parole, establishes Canada's first sex offender registry.  The registry will list the name and current address of any Ontario resident who has been convicted of a serious sex offense in Canada.  Under the law, anyone convicted of sexual interference with a child under 14 must register with police when arriving in a new community.  Failure to do so could mean a one-year jail term and a $16,750 US fine.
