COPS: SEX-CRIME SPREE ENDS WITH SUICIDE TRY

Kevon Banks, 32, of Beckley, West Virginia, a sex attack suspect, allegedly tried to kill himself after he went on a three day tri-state rampage that culminated in the rape of a mother and her four year old daughter.  He tried to commit suicide by slashing his wrists with glass after he crashed a stolen Jeep Cherokee at about 5 p.m. Tuesday.  His crime spree began Saturday by trying to kidnap two teens near his West Virginia home.  In Kentucky the next day, an old high school acquaintance of Banks' brother escaped an attempted rape.  In Lexington, he raped a woman in her home.  Afterward he drove to Illinois and tied up and sexually assaulted a woman and her four-year-old daughter.  He is also accused of stealing the white 1996 Jeep Cherokee he allegedly drove during his spree.  Banks is being held by the Ralls County Sheriff's Department.  Warrants have been filed against him in Illinois and Kentucky.  West Virginia officials have impaneled a grand jury to look into Banks' alleged crimes there.   But, Illinois officials will be the first to take custody and try him.
