A middle-aged man in Edo State has been arrested by the police for allegedly defiling and impregnating his 13-year-old daughter. The suspect, Friday Moses, was among 76 suspects paraded by the police commissioner, Johnson Babatunde Kokumo, for alleged involvement in various crimes in the state.  Kokumo said they were arrested for various crimes including robbery, kidnapping, rape and cultism, adding that 47 arms and many ammunitions were recovered from them.

He said many of the suspects were students while others were criminals who make incursion into the state to perpetuate criminal activities. Kokumo assured that the suspects would be charged to court as soon as investigations were completed.  It was gathered that Moses, who hails from Cross River State but resides in Edo, has been having carnal knowledge of his daughter as far back as when the child was seven years old.  It was further gathered that the victim, a primary six pupil, lost her mother five years ago and has been living with the suspect who constantly abused her sexually.

It was learnt that the suspect was driven out of Ologbo community in Ipoba Okha Local Government when the people discovered that he was sleeping with his daughter. He was said to have relocated to Egba community still in Ipoba Okha LGA and continued with his incestuous act till he got his daughter pregnant.  It was also gathered that when the community members discovered that the girl was pregnant for her father, they informed the police and he was arrested.

Speaking with journalists, the minor who is said to be five months pregnant, said the suspect has been having sexual intercourse with her since she was very small.

“My father slept with me five times, he started when I was very small. He asked me to meet him inside his room and when I went he started touching my waist, when I said no, he said if I shout  he will use cutlass to kill,” she said.

She added that her father threatened to kill her if she ever told anybody that he was sleeping with her.

However, the suspect denied having carnal knowledge of his daughter. “I have a girlfriend before but when people come to my house and beat me up that I am going out with a married woman, I abandoned her.

“My wife died five years ago and my daughter is 13 years. I did not impregnate her but you can take it the way she said it,” he said.
