(KUTV) — A former obstetrician-gynecologist was sentenced in 2019 to more than 21 years in prison after pleading guilty to producing child pornography.
Nathan Ward allegedly livestreamed the sexual abuse of a victim, who was between the ages of 12 and 14, with another sex offender, Robert Edwin Francis, who was also convicted in federal court, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office of Utah.
Ward was convicted for the sexual abuse of the same victim in state court. A judge sentenced him to 262 months in prison and a lifetime of supervised release for the crimes.
In August 2017, Davis County prosecutors charged Ward with sodomy on a child, aggravated sexual abuse of a child, forcible sodomy, two counts of forcible sexual abuse, and six counts of sexual exploitation of a minor. The next month, he was federally charged with sexually abusing a teenage girl and possessing and sharing child pornography.
Ward was initially arrested in July 2017 after the Internet Crimes Against Children task force accused Ward of engaging in online conversations and shared sexually exploitative images. Court documents state investigators linked the conversation to IP addresses associated with Lakeview Hospital, Saint Mark’s Hospital, and Intermountain Healthcare--where Ward worked. The IP address of Ward's home was also listed as being involved in the explicit conversations.

After his initial arrest, Ward posted bail and was released. After allegations of sexual abuse arose, he was re-booked into the Davis County Jail.
He was sentenced in May 2019.
