JAILED IN INTERNET SEX CASE

Michael Schaffer, a 30 year old Pennsylvania man who made plans over the Internet to have sex with a 14 year old Coram girl, was sentenced yesterday to a year in jail.

The 14 year old girl called for a cab on February 10 to take her from Coram, Long Island to Reading, Pennsylvania, where she said she wanted to visit her father.  The girl's voice was steady but shrill and taxi dispatcher Roy D'Angelo knew right away it sounded too high for someone claiming to be 17.  He told her a cab would be by to pick her up after telling her the ride would cost her $580.  But instead of sending the cab, he called the police and kept the girl waiting until they found her standing outside her home.  The girl admitted she was 14 and said she was really trying to visit Schaeffer, a man she had met on the Internet last year and with whom she agreed to have sex.  Schaeffer was arrested and charged with second degree attempted rape and first-degree disseminating indecent material to a minor.  The two met online in December.  Schaeffer, who is unemployed, lives with his mother, and completed a 59-month prison sentence last year for having sex with a 13 year old girl.  He first told the Long Island girl he was 18, but soon admitted his real age and criminal past, and began e-mailing her photos of naked women.
