JURY AWARDS $800,000 IN CHILD MOLESTATION

A Suffolk County jury has awarded $800,000 to an 8 year old boy who, at age 5, was molested by two other children in the bathroom of the now-defunct Small World Day Care Center in Central Islip.  The jury reached the verdict November 14, deciding that the day care center was 98 percent responsible for the April 24, 2000, incident, because of lack of supervision.  It found that a boy, who was 9 at the time and abused the victim, was 2 percent responsible, and a third boy, who was 5, was not responsible, though he was present during the incident.  The jury awarded $250,000 to the victim for past pain and suffering and $550,000 for future pain and suffering.
