A man awaiting trial on sex crimes is back behind bars after authorities say he has been arrested on a new rape charge.

Jamarcus Keaundre Perry, 29, is charged with first-degree rape. The Tuscaloosa Violent Crimes Unit received the report on March 20 and immediately launched an investigation, said Capt. Jack Kennedy.

To protect the privacy of the victim, Kennedy said, authorities are not saying where the assault happened.

“Perry was an acquaintance of the victim and there is no reason to believe that any other persons in the Cottondale are in any danger,’’ Kennedy said.

Perry was arrested in November 2021 after a previous investigation by the Violent Crimes Unit for first-degree sexual abuse and first-degree sodomy. He was out of jail on $25,000 bond for those alleged crimes.

Prosecutors on Monday successfully asked that Perry’s bond in the previous cases be revoked.

Kennedy said due to the nature of the assaults, and “known proclivities of these types of offenders,” investigators are asking anyone who may have been a victim of Perry to contact the Violent Crimes Unit at 205-464-8690.
