After police said he barricaded himself in a Crystal Lake home and threatened officers with a knife, a McHenry man was taken into custody Friday night and charged with multiple felonies, including production of child pornography and sexual assault.

Matthew R. Reder, 24, was arrested following several hours of negotiations after he locked himself in a bathroom in the 500 block of Darlington Lane in the northwest suburb, according to a news release from Crystal Lake police.

Crystal Lake police were called to the home around 4:30 p.m. Friday for reports of a burglary at the residence, police said. When officers arrived, Reder immediately barricaded himself in the bathroom and began threatening officers with a knife, the release said.

Officers from multiple agencies set up a perimeter around the house and negotiated with Reder for several hours until he surrendered himself without incident, according to police. He was taken into custody on two active warrants, one from McHenry County and one from DuPage County. More charges are expected, police said.

Right now, the charges he faces are two counts of predatory criminal sexual assault, two counts of production of child pornography and two counts of possession of child pornography, all class X felonies. He also faces a felony drug charge and four misdemeanor charges, including aggravated assault, obstructing a peace officer, criminal trespass to a residence and criminal damage to property.

He was awaiting a bond hearing in the McHenry County Jail.
