NASSAU STEPS UP SEX-OFFENDER WATCH
After an audit that said sex offenders wearing global positioning system devices were not monitored at all times by Nassau probation officials, a $500,000 state grant will help them with more technology and staffing to monitor high-risk offenders 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The grant will help the county to computerize law enforcement databases by next year. As part of the program, other high-risk violent offenders could be subjected to satellite tracking. The grant also allows the county to expand its use of polygraph tests on sex offenders.
