NEW YORK: PATAKI: MEGAN’S LAW TO GET TOUGHER
Governor George Pataki signed into law amendments designed to strengthen the state's Sex Offender Registration Act, known as Megan's Law. While surrounded by a number of elected officials and Parents for Megan's Law executive director, Laura Ahearn, Pataki signed the bill amending Megan's Law this past Thursday, September 2. The amendments broaden the scope of sexually violent crimes for which a sex offender must register, make notification of a sex offender's presence in a community more precise and clarify procedures for registration and determination of risk levels.
