NEW YORK PERV POL GETS 3 YEARS

Mayor John Gosek, a 59 year old former Oswego Mayor, resigned September 21, 2005, in the wake of his arrest of federal charges of using a cellphone to offer money and drugs to solicit sex from two underage girls.  Gosek had two years left in his second term as mayor of Oswego.  He was arrested at a Syracuse hotel after paying a confidential informant $250 to introduce him to two 15 year old girls.  If convicted, he faced a sentence of five to 30 years in prison.

On March 13, 2006, Gosek confessed that he used a city-issued cellphone to arrange sexual encounters with two underage girls.  He pleaded guilty to one of two criminal counts against him.  Prosecutors agreed to drop a second charge that he tried to arrange sex with another woman he thought was underage.  He faced a maximum sentence of 30 years and minimum of five years and could be fined up to $250,000.

On July 18, 2006, Gosek was sentenced to more than three years in federal prison.
