SEBASTOPOL, Calif. (KGO) — Former mayor of Sebastapol, Robert Jacob has been arrested on suspicion having sex with a minor.

Sebastopol police arrested Jacob, 44, Saturday morning, booking him on five felony counts and one misdemeanor related to the alleged sexual assault crimes against a child 15-year-old or under.

Sebastapol Police Chief Kevin Kilgore said they received a tip on March 30 and quickly began their investigation.

Kilgore said they believe the crimes may have begun in December of 2019 and continued through March of 2021. Jacob served

 It was a story that headlined our evening newscasts for weeks in 2007. An 18-year-old page accused then-Democratic State Senator Dan Sutton of molesting him.

At the time, the Senate held hearings and voted to formally reprimand Sutton, but he was not kicked out of office and never criminally charged.

Monday night Dan Sutton took office as the mayor of Flandreau, but along with his new position have come new accusations of sexual abuse, which allegedly occurred more than two decades ago.

Mayor John Gosek, a 59 year old former Oswego Mayor, resigned September 21, 2005, in the wake of his arrest of federal charges of using a cellphone to offer money and drugs to solicit sex from two underage girls.  Gosek had two years left in his second term as mayor of Oswego.  He was arrested at a Syracuse hotel after paying a confidential informant $250 to introduce him to two 15 year old girls.  If convicted, he faced a sentence of five to 30 years in prison.

Philip Giordano, 42, the three-term mayor of Waterbury and GOP nominee for Senate in 2000, was convicted March 25, 2003 – his 40 birthday – of violating the rights of two preteen girls by sexually abusing them while in office.  He was on trial on federal civil-rights charges, one count of conspiracy and 11 counts of using a telephone to entice or solicit children for sex. He is charged with using an interstate facility to entice a minor to engage in sexual activity and conspiracy to commit that offense. He

Spokane, Washington Mayor James E. West, 54, was accused in a newspaper story yesterday of molesting two boys decades ago and was caught by the paper using the trappings of his office to try to court a young man on a gay Web site.  West denied the allegations.  He acknowledged he had relations with adult men.
