Law enforcement officials in Los Angeles and across the country have been overwhelmed in recent months by a surge in tips about online child sex abuse, with social media platforms and other service providers flagging explicit content and suspicious interactions at an alarming rate.
With schools closed, youth activities canceled and kids spending more time online under stay-at-home orders related to the coronavirus pandemic, sexual predators have ramped up their efforts to solicit pictures and videos, officials say.

NEW HANOVER COUNTY, N.C. (WECT) – As the investigation continues into Peter Frank, the Roland Grise Middle School teacher charged with 12 counts of indecent liberties with a child or student, a new state law aimed at reducing sexual abuse of children comes into sharp focus for one of the legislators behind it.

State Rep. Ted Davis (R-New Hanover) said the purpose behind Senate Bill 199 was to strengthen North Carolina’s laws protecting both children and adults who are victims of sexual violence.

RALEIGH (WTVD) — With over a million visitors expected, the N.C. State Fair is the state’s largest annual event. So, tracking a random fair-goer who may be on the state’s sex offender registry seems like finding a needle in a haystack.

A registered sex offender from Rocky Mount was caught at the NC State Fair on Monday.

HEMPSTEAD, Long Island (WABC) –A Long Island elementary school art teacher is under arrest, accused of sexually abusing a young girl. And police fear there may be more victims.  Authorities say 51-year-old John Joseph Finnegan, of Island Park, subjected a 10-year-old girl to inappropriate behavior and sexual contact during an after-school program.
