Three state senators called on Governor David A. A bill extending the statute of limitations on lawsuits over future allegations of child sexabuse was approved yesterday by an Assembly committee.  In an 18-1 vote, the Codes Committeesent the legislation sponsored by Assemblyman Vito Lopez (D-Brooklyn) to the Assembly floor for avote, which could occur in a few weeks.

A controversial bill that would temporarily lift the statute of limitations on lawsuits allegingsexual abuse of children was adopted yesterday by an Assembly committee.  The 19-memberAssembly Codes Committee approved a bill providing a one-year window for victims of sexual abuse tofile lawsuits even if their cases are decades old.  The bill now goes before the full Assemblyfor a vote.

Misdemeanor sex offenders will now be barred from getting real estate agent and brokerlicenses under a new state law. Felons have almost always been barred from getting state licenses -unless they won administrative  hearings or got pardoned – but when it came to misdemeanors,including sex related offenses, the New York State Department of State, which oversees licensing,had more flexibility in licensing.
