Eric Hartwell, a 51 year old registered sex offender, who escaped earlier in February, wastaken into custody by the US Marshals Service in Norfolk, Virginia on Friday.  Hartwellescaped from a Denver halfway house on February 21 after reportedly cutting off his ankle monitorand both Colorado and federal law enforcement authorities had been searching for him ever since. Hehas been on parole through Colorado since December 20 for failing to register as a sex offender andwas on probation with federal law enforcement for previous sex crimes.  In 1991 he wasconvicted of molesting a six year old in Washington State and for attempted rape of a 15 year oldhitchhiker in 1995.  Hartwell has at least four convictions for failing to register as a sexoffender.
