DRIFTER SAYS HE KILLED 10 IN BRAZIL

Lacrete Patrocinio Orpinelli, 47, a drifter with a long history of violent behavior has been charged with sexual abuse and murder in Sao Paulo state and has confessed to killing at least 10 children over a 20 year period, police said Tuesday.  Orpinelli confessed to three murders shortly after he was arrested on January 14th in Rio Claro.  He also confessed to seven more killings and led police to the bodies.  The victims were boys and girls ranging in age from 5 to 11.  He said nightmares he was having made him confess to the crimes, police Chief Sueli Isler Batelochi said by telephone from Rio Claro.  In 1996 Orpinelli was arrested for attacking two children.  Police found him carrying gum, candy and toys at the time.  For lack of evidence he was eventually released.
