GRAND TRAVERSE COUNTY, Mich., (WPBN/WGTU) -- A former northern Michigan principal has plead guilty to sex crime charges.

On Friday, Karl Hartman plead guilty to three counts of assault with intent to commit second degree criminal sexual conduct. The other charges against him were dismissed.

Hartman will be sentenced on November 1st.

Hartman's attorney says each of the charges carries a five year maximum sentence, and those sentences would be served at the same time.

However, the judge can choose to sentence Hartman outside of those guidelines.

Hartman was facing life in prison on the original charges.

He will also be a registered sex offender for the rest of his life.

Hartman, the former principal at Kingsley Middle School, is accused of molesting boys as young as 8 and 9 years old. The incidents dated back to 2009.

In January, Hartman was charged with two counts of second degree criminal sexual conduct, one count of accosting a minor and two counts of furnishing alcohol to minors.

He was put on leave at Kingsley Schools shortly after.

In March, Hartman was charged with an additional count of first degree CSC after another victim came forward.

Hartman worked for Kingsley Schools for more than 30 years.
