MAN FACES NEW CHILD ENDANGERMENT CHARGES

Jose Rodriguez, 33, of Island Park, a convicted rapist, was arrested after members of a Long Beach community rallied together and helped capture the man who tried to lure a 12 year old girl into his car after she got off a school bus earlier this month. He was arraigned on June 21 on a misdemeanor charge of endangering the welfare of a child. After his arrest, Rodriguez admitted to trying to coax the girl into his car. If convicted, he faces a maximum sentence of one year in jail.

Rodriguez, already out on bail, was arraigned yesterday on similar charges.  He was being held on $10,000 bail yesterday.  When he was arrested in June, he was released on a $96 station house bail.  He was due back in court Monday on the first charge but that date has been moved to July 26 to coincide with his court appearance on the latest charges of stalking and endangering the welfare of a child, a 14 year old girl of Long Beach.  All of the charges are misdemeanors, each carrying a maximum of a year in jail.

Rodriguez, who was convicted of rape in 1992 and served a 10 year sentence, did not make bail and was transferred last night to the county jail in East Meadow.
