NEIGHBORS WARNED OF SEX OFFENDER PRIEST

Reverend Edward A. Pipala was a pastor at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Goshen and an assistant pastor at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Monroe.  He has served seven years in a federal penitentiary after pleading guilty to a federal charge of taking a minor across state lines to New Jersey for illicit sex.  There are reports that say he had sex with as many as 50 boys and local charges were filed as well.  The Roman Catholic Church has already begun proceedings to defrock the priest.  Police are now going door-to-door in the quiet Homecrest section, calmly telling neighbors about the disgraced priest with the criminal past who now lives among them.  This is the first time Yonkers police have actively notified neighbors under the terms of Megan's Law, which requires authorities to keep tabs on registered sex offenders.
