PARENTS FEAR WEBPAGES CAN MAKE THEIR CHILDREN VICTIMS

MICHIGAN

A committee to establish safety guidelines was appointed after worried parents in the Avondale district contacted school officials about the fear that the Net gives potential abusers access to their children, through schools' web pages.  The district decided to pull some photos of younger students off the Internet and appointed the committee.  It will recommend that the student photos be limited to group shots and that last names of elementary students never be put on the Internet sites.  The schools will have to request permission from parents to post any information about their child and parents must be notified when their child may appear on a site.
