BURBANK, IL — A 22-year-old man recently paroled from the Illinois Department of Corrections has been charged in the sexual assault of a St. Laurence High School student. Marquise Myles, of Chicago, is facing aggravated criminal sexual assault, aggravated robbery and kidnapping all felonies. Myles was taken into custody at work, Burbank police said in a news release.
The reported attack on a 14-year-old girl on her way to school occurred around 7:47 a.m. Monday near 79th Street and Central Avenue in Burbank. Police said a man, identified as Myles, inferred that he had a gun and pulled the girl in an alley, where he sexually assaulted her. At the time of attack, police said the area was busy with traffic and people traveling to work and school.
Myles was apprehended when he reported to work at PACTIV Corporation, 7701 W. 79th St. in Bridgeview, where he was a temporary employee of Elite Staffing of Chicago. Police said Myles had only been assigned to PACTIV for a week, but used public transportation to get to and from work.
Myles had just finished his shift on Monday and was riding on the same PACE bus as the girl. He followed her off the bus at 79th Street and Central Avenue, police said.
Video surveillance purportedly shows Myles coming up from behind the high school student and forcing her into a nearby alley in the 7800 block of Central Avenue. Police said that further video surveillance of Myles shows him boarding a CTA bus at 79th Street and Cicero Avenue in Chicago.
Myles was released on parole in August 2018 from the Stateville Correctional Center, where he had been serving a three-year sentence for possession and use of a firearm by a felon. He has prior convictions for gun charges, according to IDOC records.
Police said Myles will be brought to the Bridgeview Courthouse on Friday afternoon for a bond hearing.
