TESTING DNA LAW (Political help for NYPD war on rapists)
The City Council, backed by the new head of the NYPD's sex crimes unit, last week submitted a resolution to the state Legislature urging it to pass a bill extending or abolishing the 10 year statute of limitations on unsolved rape cases. Unless the state acts, a backlog of DNA kits from 1987 to 1999, which the unit began vigorously reexamining in October 2000, will become useless in convicting criminals.
