The Guernsey County Sheriff’s Office is investigating an alleged sexual assault that a victim reported occurred while she was being held against her will at her Byesville area home for more than two days. The 38-year-old victim reported a male assailant identified as her boyfriend physically assaulted her and her 18-month-old daughter during the incident. The exact address of the alleged assault is being withheld by The Daily Jeffersonian to protect the identities of the victims.
The victims reportedly suffered visible injuries during the assaults. According to reports at the Guernsey County Sheriff’s Office, the alleged assault involving the adult victim was first reported at 2:03 p.m. Thursday when a healthcare worker at a pain clinic on Maple Avenue in Zanesville contacted local authorities. The caller reported the victim advised she was held against her will and sexually assaulted after medical personnel observed signs of abuse during a visit to the office. The abuse reportedly came at the hands of a 29-year-old Byesville area resident. A local sheriff’s deputy instructed the victim to visit Genesis Hospital to receive an examination by a sexual assault nurse examiner (SANE). The deputy would also have a Zanesville police officer respond to the hospital to complete a report.
The victim reportedly failed to go to Genesis Hospital and instead, arrived at Southeastern Med in Cambridge just before 6 p.m. A hospital employee reported to the sheriff’s office that the victim advised she and her daughter were physically assaulted during the incident. With no Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner available at the Cambridge hospital, the victim was reportedly transferred to Belmont Community Hospital in Bellaire when a SANE examination was completed. Guernsey County Children Service and the Haven of Hope assisted local authorities while the victim was at Southeastern Med. A sheriff’s detective was also notified regarding the case.
