Retired NYPD Detective Shoots Wife, a 5th-Grade Teacher, in Apparent Murder Suicide: Police

A retired NYPD detective allegedly shot and killed his wife while his three children were home in an apparent murder-suicide, according to Yonkers police.

Police said they were called to Chittenden Avenue in Tuckahoe on Wednesday at 7 a.m. where they found a man deceased with a gunshot wound to his head and a woman deceased with several gunshot wounds to her body.

The man was identified as Sean O’Neill, 54, and the woman was identified as Arlene O’Neill who was 47, police said.

Long Island Mother Killed in Front of Son after Order of Protection from Child’s Father Expires, Police Say

A vigil was held Friday on Long Island for a mother who police say was killed in front of her 2-year-old son by the child’s father. Her family and support group is now bringing awareness to domestic violence.

Brenda Alfaro, 29, was killed inside her Hempstead home on Oct. 5. Police say 43-year-old Jose Funes-Zabala, her son’s father who she was no longer in a relationship with, stabbed her more than 30 times.

The paper included a decade’s worth of data from the Centers of Disease Control and Prevention among Black women ages 25 to 44 across 30 states.

In the U.S., Black adult women are six times more likely to be killed than their white counterparts, troubling new data reveals.

A paper published Thursday in The Lancet medical journal analyzed homicide rates of Black women ages 25 to 44 across 30 states. The data was collected between 1999 and 2020 by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s National Vital Statistics System.
