GRAND TRAVERSE COUNTY, Mich., (WPBN/WGTU) — A former northern Michigan principal has been sentenced for sex crimes.
A Grand Traverse County judge has sentenced Karl Hartman to three to five years in prison and more than $2,000 in fines for three counts of assault with intent to commit second-degree criminal sexual conduct.
Hartman pleaded guilty to those charges in October.
According to Hartman’s attorneys, each of the charges against Hartman carried a five-year maximum sentence, and those sentences would be served at the same time.

SAN FRANCISCO(AP)— A state prison inmate incarcerated at the Central California Women’s Facility was awaiting her group therapy session on Aug. 23, 2017. She stepped backward in her cell toward the door, where Correctional Officer Israel Trevino waited with waist restraints.

As he attached the chains, he reached down with both of his hands “to grope and fondle her buttocks,” according to an internal investigation that led to Trevino’s firing.

NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) — A North Charleston church volunteer facing numerous charges after officials said he sexually abused children rejected a plea deal on Friday.
Jacop Hazlett, a former NewSpring Church children’s class volunteer, was first charged in November and December 2018 for incidents related to his time with the church.

EL PASO, Texas (KFOX14) — Convicted child sex abuser Christopher Manuel was given the maximum sentence Wednesday in a Las Cruces courtroom.
In August, Manuel changed his plea of “not guilty” to “guilty” to 10 different counts related to a 2017 arrest.
Manuel was sentenced to 43 years in prison.
The charges include:
• Four counts of criminal sexual contact in the third degree
• Three counts of criminal sexual contact in the second degree

WHITE RIVER JUNCTION — A former prison guard at the Southern State Correctional Facility pleaded guilty to one charge and no contest to another in a sex crimes case involving an inmate at the facility.
Cameron Morin, 22, of Newfane, appeared in court Tuesday for the plea. He will be sentenced following a pretrial investigation and a psychosexual examination, according to Windsor County Deputy State’s Attorney Heidi Remick. She added that the sentencing likely won’t occur for several months, although there is no date set yet.
