Kansas Attorney General Derek Schmidt is pushing for lawmakers to require people convicted of certain child pornography crimes to register as sex offenders.

“This is a matter of the law needing to catch up with technology,” Schmidt said in a statement. “Sadly, as the methods of distributing visual depictions of children being sexually abused have expanded, so too must the legal tools available to respond to that sort of illegal behavior that harms kids. This added tool is needed to help prevent more kids from becoming victims.”

The San Francisco Police Department immediately will start reviewing its DNA collection practices and policies after the city’s top prosecutor accused it of using a law enforcement database with the DNA of rape and sexual assault victims to search for and identify possible suspects in unrelated investigations, its chief said Monday.

SARCOXIE, Mo. – A former Sarcoxie teacher charged for sexual relations with a student is now having her charges dropped after she and the student married.

Baylee Turner, who began teaching English at Sarcoxie in 2019, was charged that same year with having sexual relations with one of her male students.

However, now that Turner and the student have married, that former student cannot be asked to testify against her.

 The last of five criminal investigations into allegations of sexual misconduct against former Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo ended on Monday with the Oswego County district attorney joining his peers in concluding that there were insufficient legal grounds to bring criminal charges.

The district attorney, Gregory S. Oakes, said in a statement that his decision was not a reflection on Virginia Limmiatis, the woman who had come forward, “or how harmful the acts she experienced were.”

The Crown says it won’t appeal the acquittals in the cases of Quebec media stars Gilbert Rozon and Eric Salvail.

A spokeswoman for the director of criminal and penal prosecutions made the announcements in a series of tweets and says the decision in the Rozon case is based on an assessment of the evidence and the fact that an appeal cannot be made on a question of fact.

The 66-year-old Rozon, founder of the Just for Laughs festival, had been accused of rape and indecent assault in charges dating
