EX-TEACHER GETS 20 YEARS IN CHILD-PORN CASE
Robert Weinstein, a 44 year old former East Meadow teacher and registered sex offender, who was more recently an executive at a Manhattan educational foundation, tried to kill himself with a kitchen knife In March 2005 when FBI agents arrived to arrest him on child pornography charges. Agents went to his home at 290 Atlantic Avenue, East Rockaway, and wrestled the large knife out of his hands and took him to the psychiatric unit of the Nassau County Medical Center in East Meadow, which released him for arraignment. Weinstein sent three computerized videos containing child pornography in February 2005 to an undercover FBI agent. Hundreds of images of child pornography were found on his home computer. He was ordered held without bail on child pornography charges pending future hearings. In 1992, Weinstein served 6 months in prison after he was convicted of attempted sexual abuse in the first degree. That case involved his molesting a 10 year old boy in a park near his home. At the time, he was a choral music teacher at Clarke Middle School and East Meadow High School. He was required to register as what is termed a level two sex offender. In 1998, Weinstein was convicted in Toronto on a charge of procuring illicit sex from a minor.
Weinstein was sentenced on August 10, 2007 to 20 years in prison.
