A level 3 sex offender was arrested on Friday for allegedly impersonating a Department of Social Services employee in order to sexually abuse and rob a disabled shelter resident, according to Suffolk County Police.
Alfred Balcerak, 65, is charged with forcible touching, third-degree sexual abuse, first- and second-degree endangering the welfare of a physically disabled person, false personation and petit larceny.
Police said that Balcerak used an impersonation ruse to gain entry to an East Farmingdale shelter facility on Sept. 6, and once inside, allegedly made forced sexual contact with a disabled resident before stealing the victim’s personal items.
After an investigation by officers and detectives from the Special Victims Section, Balcerak was arrested at his Deer Park home located at 145 Wright Ave. at 8:17 p.m. Friday.
Balcerak is a registered New York State sex offender and has been arrested in three other cases.
According to the state Division of Criminal Justice Services, in 1998, Balcerak was convicted of first-degree sexual abuse and the victims are listed as a 9-year-old girl and 14-year-old boy. Twelve years later, in 2010, he was charged with sexually abusing a 14-year-old boy that he knew.
In 2014, he was charged with forcible touching and the victim is listed as a 21-year-old man. According to a Newsday report from the time of his sentencing, Balcerak was the victim’s employer. He was convicted of pulling the young man’s pants down and grabbing his genitals.
It was not clear how old the victim in the current case is.
Balcerak was held overnight by police and was scheduled to be arraigned in Central Islip on Saturday.
Detectives ask anyone with information, or who believe they may be a victim, to call the Special Victims Section at 631-852-6531.
