A former Massachusetts professor accused of raping a student in his office after meeting her on a “sugar daddy” website has been indicted, prosecutors said.
Nicholas Pirelli — a 37-year-old communications professor who has been fired by Bridgewater State University — was indicted Monday on a litany of sex crimes, including rape, indecent assault and battery on a person over 14, engaging in sexual conduct for a fee, trafficking of a person for sexual servitude and disseminating obscene matter, prosecutors announced Wednesday.
Bridgewater State University police first began investigating Pirelli when a woman — who was not his student at the school — reported that he raped her on campus in October 2019. The student said she met Pirelli on seeking.com, which pairs “sugar babies” with “sugar daddies,” according to court documents cited by The Enterprise.
Pirelli — who offered to “spoil” the woman, she told police — later said the pair would need to be “discreet” upon learning she was a student at the college.
Pirelli had been on the site looking for someone to dominate him with whips and chains — and also sent the woman a photo of his sex toy collection, court documents show.
The student claimed Pirelli performed forcible sex acts on her after offering her help with an essay and to work on her resume, according to a police report.
After the woman went to university police, four other female students alleged Pirelli had reached out to them on social media, including seeking.com, Plymouth County District Attorney Timothy Cruz said.
Some of the students rejected Pirelli’s advances upon learning he was a professor, but he continued to contact them while trying to set up meetings for sex, Cruz said.
“It is alleged that Pirelli would frequently send money to the women via the Venmo application, as well as offer them assistance with on-campus employment and academic assignments,” Cruz said in a statement.
Pirelli, who was placed on leave following his arrest in March, has since been fired by Bridgewater State University, Cruz said.
Pirelli pleaded not guilty to rape and indecent assault in the alleged Oct. 20 attack at his campus office, the Boston Globe reported.
Just days later, he pleaded not guilty after being arrested a second time on charges of trafficking of a person for sexual servitude, distributing obscene matter, and sexual conduct for a fee. He allegedly tried to turn a second student into his “personal prostitute,” court filings cited by the newspaper show.
Pirelli’s attorney told The Enterprise after his second arrest that the initial rape charge against him was the “weakest I’ve seen in 20 years as a lawyer” while claiming the new sex trafficking charge would not stand up in court, saying the allegations amounted to “attempted sex” for a fee, the newspaper reported.
Pirelli is set to be arraigned in Brockton Superior Court on Feb. 25, Cruz said.
