To the list of places you might find sexual predators, add this one, said an announcer on apublic service advertisement, as the image of a child at a computer crossed the screen.  It’sa warning to parents as part of Operation Safe Internet.  The investigative effort was led bythe state’s Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, or ICAC, made up of state and localpolice, the state Attorney General’s Office, the state Division of Criminal Justice Attorneys andthe state’s four US Attorneys.

R&B star R. Kelly was jailed overnight in June 2002 on child pornography charges and wasreleased after posting $750,000 bail bond. A Florida judge ordered him to have no contact withminors unrelated to him. The charges stem from a videotape showing a sexual tryst between Kelly anda 13 year old girl. Kelly is already dogged by allegations of sexual misconduct. He was chargedwith 21 counts of child pornography and arrested near a house he rents in Davenport, Florida. Thefelony charge carries a maximum sentence of 15 years in prison

Ronald Stein, a 45 year old FDNY paramedic, was arraigned on 11 counts related to actsharmful to a child.  A 14 year old ‘s tip to a national anti-abuse tip line last month led tothe arrest of Stein, who lives in Sea Cliff, on charges that include promoting a child’s sexualperformance.  He is said to have propositioned the teen on the Internet to arrange anin-person liaison.  After the teen complained to the tip line, at the National Center forMissing & Exploited Children, police gathered enough information to search Stein’s
