MANCHESTER, Md. (Gray News) – A Maryland man was sentenced to 17 years in prison Friday for kidnapping a woman and leading a sex trafficking conspiracy, the U.S. Department of Justice announced.

The DOJ said Joshua Lankford, 33, used violence and drugs to control a young woman and planned to kill her to keep her from testifying at trial.

FORT MYERS, Fla. — Three cases of sex crimes against children are now closed with the conviction and sentencing of 41-year-old Jose Enrique Ortega.

In the first case from 2020, the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) traced digital information to Ortega linking him to the possession of child porn. Charges, in this case, included possession and intent to distribute. He was sentenced to a total of 40 years in prison for this case.

A16-year-old Las Vegas student allegedly beat his teacher into unconsciousness during a conversation about grades, according to police.

The student, identified as Jonathan Eluterio Martinez Garcia by the Las Vegas Journal Review, met with his Eldorado High School teacher Thursday afternoon to “to talk about his grades,” the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department announced Friday.

“At some point, the suspect got violent and began punching the victim and strangled her until she lost consciousness,” police said in a statement.

A 62-year-old man has been charged with sexually assaulting a woman found murdered behind a restaurant in Wildwood, N.J. in 1990, authorities said.

Jerry Rosado, linked to the crime through DNA, could face additional charges as investigators learn more, the Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office said.

Rosado was busted Friday and charged with sexually assaulting 20-year-old college student Susan Negersmith on Memorial Day weekend in May 1990.

Negersmith lived in Carmel, NY, in Putnam County, and was vacationing with friends when she was killed.

A Sabattus woman who was charged with her boyfriend in 2019 with sexually assaulting an 8-year-old child in Rumford has been sentenced to five years in prison.

Bethany Ringuette, 37, was found guilty in January of class A felony gross sexual assault. Rumford police said at the time that Ringuette and her boyfriend, Travis Walker, 31, of Bethel, assaulted the child more than once in early 2019.
