William Flahive, a 41 year old Glen Cove man, was arrested late last week after he allegedlyfollowed three teenage girls in his car in Westbury while simulating a sexual act. The three girls,one age 11, the other 13, were walking on Maple Avenue around 4:30 p.m. September 11, when Flahive,of 8 Saxon Court, pulled up next to the girls in his 1996 Saab with his pants around his ankles andhis underwear visible. Narda Goff, 43, went on trial, accused of helping her husband, John Goff, impregnate her daughter with a syringe when she was 16. The now 19 year old woman, whose identity was withheld, said she agreed to the arrangement only after her stepfather threatened to kill her mother. She said she never told her mother about the threat he made at gunpoint, but that her mother helped her chart her menstrual cycle to determine when she was most fertile. The mother faces up to 15 years in prison if convicted
Clifford Lavon Howard, a 19 year old Freeport man, was arraigned yesterday on charges that he sexually abused a 12 year old girl. Howard, of 25 Buffalo Avenue, was arraigned on charges of second degree sodomy and second degree sexual abuse. He went to the girls home when she was alone on October 1 and, during the course of the evening, engaged in sexual activity with her. She later told her mother, who reported the incident to police. His bail was set at $4,000 bond or $2,000 cash.

Vatican sources said yesterday that top U.S. Catholic bishops will come to the Vatican this weekend for talks centered on the child-sex scandals that have rocked the church. The president of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops, Wilton Gregory, and his deputy, William Skylstad, are expected to stay for a week as part of a regular, twice-yearly visit to the Vatican by the U.S. church hierarchy.

Ward Weaver has been jailed since August 13 when he was arrested on rape charges involving his 19 year old son’s girlfriend. Following that alleged rape, the upset son told 9-1-1 dispatchers that his father had killed Ashley Pond and Miranda Gaddis, two 13 year old girls who disappeared last winter. After finding the remains of one human body in a shed, FBI agents searched Weaver’s property for any sign of the missing girls. They began digging beneath a concrete slab the man had poured shortly after the disappearances. Authorities
Authorities launched a nationwide search for 9 year old Jennifer Short, who vanished from the western Virginia home where her parents were shot to death. Bone fragments and a skull found on a rural property are the remains of the missing girl. Tests by a lab in Roanoke, Va., showed Jennifer had been shot. The bodies of Michael Short, 50, and Mary Short, 36, were found early August 15, 2002 after a co-worker stopped by the home. There were no signs of a struggle found. The police say they believe
