HIGH COURT RULES ON NET PORN (Free-speech issue still open)

The Supreme Court partly upheld yesterday a federal law meant to keep Internet pornography awayfrom children, but it kept alive a fight over whether the measure is an unconstitutional crimp onfree speech. The divided court deflected one of several challenges to the 1998 law and returned thecase to a lower court for further review or a trial on unresolved free-speech questions.

EGAN TO EXPLAIN VIEWS TO PRIESTS

In a sermon to parishioners at St. Anastasia Church in Orange County, Edward Cardinal Egan did not directly address reports that, while bishop of Bridgeport, Connecticut, he protected priests accused of sexual misconduct, according to New York Archdiocese spokesman Joseph Zwilling.  Egan reportedly encouraged the Rev. SUPREME COURT SAYS INTERNET PORN LAW NOT TOO BROAD

The US Supreme Court ruled on Monday that a federal law that makes it a crime to put on the Internet sexually explicit material that can be viewed by minors was not unconstitutional just because it relied on community standards.

OPEN-AND-SMUT CASE (2 B’klynites busted in kiddie-porn sting)

Brian Delancy, a 57 year old MTA station switchman, and Scott Soto, a 27 year old teacher at IS 291, were caught yesterday in a worldwide child-pornography sting.  The sting, based in New Jersey, has rounded up suspects as far away as Norway, Italy and Hong Kong.  Delancy and Soto were charged with possession and distribution of child pornography.  Cops found evidence that the men had sent and received several pornographic images of boys.  There have been four arrests in New Jersey, three in Norway and one in Hong Kong.

GUILTY PLEA IN BRONX TEEN-HOOKER RING

Everton Duncan, a 35 year old counselor at a Bronx juvenile detention center, interrupted his trial yesterday to plead guilty to running a prostitution ring that included teenage girls.  Duncan, who is from the Bronx, pleaded guilty to four counts of promoting prostitution in the third degree and one count of endangering the welfare of a child.  He was an associate juvenile counselor at the Bridges and Horizon Juvenile Detention Centers, formerly called Spofford.  Sentencing was set for June 18.  He faces a maximum sentence of seven years in prison
