Steven Nowicki, a 37 year old former fifth-grade teacher was convicted yesterday of sexually abusing two boys who said he crept into their bunk beds after they were invited by him to spend the night.  Nowicki was found guilty on all 22 counts of sodomy, sexual abuse and endangering children.  His $350,000 bail was revoked and he was ordered held until sentencing.  The boys, now 8 and 10, testified at the trial.  Nowicki testified that he never touched these boys during the predawn hours of New Year’s Day 1999.  He

Staff Sergeant Frank J. Ronghi, 36, an American soldier, was sentenced to life in prison without parole for the murder of an 11 year old Kosovo Albanian girl.  He pleaded guilty last week to premeditated murder and forcible sodomy of Merita Shabiu.  He was sent to Kosovo last summer with the Third Battalion of the 504th Parachute Infantry on a peacekeeping duty.  Testimony from a fellow soldier said Ronghi told other soldiers that he had a plan to grab a little girl and rape her, but would have to kill

Lisa Hensale, a 35-year-old Springfield High School teacher, is accused of having sex with oneof her students. She pleaded guilty to a lesser charge in court Monday. She was initially chargedwith rape involving one of her students, but pled guilty to one count of attempted sexual battery.Hensal, who is married, denies the charges while the student maintains that the relationship wasconsensual. As part of the plea agreement, Hensal will also turn in her teaching certificate andresign from the Springfield School District. She will be sentenced October 30th.

Frank Bauer, an art teacher at Salegian High School, a parochial boys school, is charged with posing online as a woman so that he could blackmail a teenage student to make pornographic videos.  Bauer allegedly concocted a scheme last year to coerce the youth to produce sexually explicit videos.  The student was under the age of 16 when he struck up the online friendship with Bauer last year.  When the boy tried to end the relationship, the fictitious e-mail acquaintance allegedly threatened to circulate doctored photographs of the youth engaging

According to researchers at the University of Minneapolis, among both adolescent girls and boys, a history of sexual or physical abuse appears to increase the risk of disordered eating behaviors, such as self-induced vomiting or use of laxatives to avoid gaining weight.  The researchers studied responses to a 225 item survey of adolescent health completed by 9943 Connecticut public school students in grades 7, 9 and 11.
