The United States statute passed in 1996 outlawing the possession of child pornography does not make the distinction between real and virtual porn.  First Amendment advocates state that the child pornography law is infringing upon the right to free speech.  H. Lewis

Sirkin, a First Amendment lawyer, was able to get the Child Pornography Protection Act in California declared unconstitutional in federal court.  However, similar interpretations of the law were not upheld in two other federal court cases.  Ultimately, this issue will have to be determined by the Supreme Court.

CITY COUNCILMAN SURRENDERS IN MOLESTATION CASE

Kevin Carney, 48, a city councilman and former sheriff’s child-abuse investigator pleaded innocent at his arraignment in Los Angeles Municipal Court and is being held on $2 million bail.  Carney turned himself in to authorities today after he was charged with molesting four girls over the past decade, according to prosecutors.  He is accused of 17 counts of child molestation and one count of possession of child pornography.  According to the felony complaint filed in Los Angeles Municipal Court, the crimes occurred between April 1990 and October 1999.  The former

MISSING TEEN FOUND LIVING WITH ACCUSED MOLESTER, MOTHER

Emily Smith, 15, was reported missing by her father several months ago.  Law enforcement acted on an anonymous tip leading them to Phoenix, Arizona where they apprehended 31 year old, Jon Jeffrey Shoemaker, who was due in court to answer charges of molesting Emily.  Investigators also discovered Emily’s mother, Catherine, at the same hotel room as Shoemaker.  Catherine Smith pleaded innocent to contributing to the delinquency of a minor on October 28th.  The molestation charges against Shoemaker detailed for a ten week period, Shoemaker and two of his friends engaged

JUDGE’S ‘TWO TO TANGO’ DRAWS CRITICISM IN MARYLAND, MAN GETS 18 MONTHS IN ASSAULT ON GIRL

Durke G. Thompson, a Circuit Court Judge said it takes two to tango when he noted that an 11-year-old girl who was sexually molested by 23-year-old Vladimir Chacon-Bonilla was not free of fault because she had invited the man into her bedroom.  Immediately coming under criticism for Thompson*s remarks, Montgomery State’s Attorney Douglas F.
