Gerald Magee, a security guard that committed a string of sex offenses against little girls within days of being released from prison is believed to be the first prisoner in Scotland given a life sentence after being sent to the High Court by a sheriff.
Governor George Pataki signed into law amendments designed to strengthen the state’s Sex Offender Registration Act, known as Megan’s Law. While surrounded by a number of elected officials and Parents for Megan’s Law executive director, Laura Ahearn, Pataki signed the bill amending Megan’s Law this past Thursday, September 2. The amendments broaden the scope of sexually violent crimes for which a sex offender must register, make notification of a sex offender’s presence in a community more precise and clarify procedures for registration and determination of risk levels.
