According to the Canberra Times, a study by the Australian Institute of Criminology has foundthat pedophiles are using highly sophisticated techniques to hide their rapidly expanding networksof explicit child-sex activities. A British study in 1995 found only 37 men worldwide that wereinvolved in child pornograpy on the Internet. In September 1997, US federal and state authoritiesdisclosed 120 US suspects and 1,500 more in other countries.

George Allen, 51, is being investigated by detectives after his 13 year old adoptive son called 911 about 6 p.m. Tuesday to report he had been beaten by him.  Both father and son were charged with sexually abusing other members of the household after detectives began questioning other members of the family.  Allegations came to light that Allen had groped two adopted sons, ages 21 and 24, in the groin, cops said.  Allen was charged at first with assault and endangering the welfare of a minor after the boy reported

California became the first state to pass a law requiring chemical castration of some childmolesters, which took effect in January 1997. After nearly two years the procedure has been orderedin only one case. According to the Observer-Dispatch, Glenn H. Barker, 40, served nine years of an 18 year sentence for the 1982 slaying of 12 year old Katie Worsky in Charlottesville, Virginia.  He was released in 1992 and was named as a suspect but never charged in the 1996 slayings of his

According to the Associated Press, any vigilantism against registered sex offenders intended to harm or scare them could jeopardize offender registration laws.  Bob Schilling, a police detective in Seattle said, All it’s going to take is one federal judge to say it’s causing too many problems, or that it’s double punishment, and we’ve lost it, all across the United States.  Iowa press releases list the offender’s picture, name, age, address and physical description and some include a little information about their crimes.  According to critics, the public is not told
