TOKYO – In a book by an Okinawan women’s civic group documenting sex crimes by U.S. soldiers in Japan, a 9-month-old infant girl is listed as the youngest rape victim.

Among a litany of cases the group began compiling after the rape of an Okinawan elementary schoolgirl by three U.S. soldiers in 1995, the 1949 crime by a U.S. serviceman who was an acquaintance of the baby’s mother stands out as arguably the most heinous and unimaginable — the baby reportedly died soon afterward.

A survey was conducted of 400 girls at two private high schools in Tokyo by a civic group set up to fight sexual molestation on trains.  The Kyodo news agency reported that more than 70 percent of female students have been groped on trains which has been a problem in Tokyo where rush hour buses and subway trains are often packed with commuters.  Those found guilty of groping can currently be fined up to 50,000 yes ($433) or be held in police custody.  The Keio Electric Railway Company set up

Marine Lance Corporal Kenny K. Titcomb, a 19-year-old US marine, was sentenced to a two-yearjail term for molesting a Japanese schoolgirl in a crime, which fueled protests against the USmilitary and cast a cloud over a leaders’ summit.
