The Boston Archdiocese has reached a settlement in one of the most notorious cases to emerge from its clergy sex abuse crisis, a priest who fathered two children, then fled when the woman overdosed on drugs.  Rev. James Foley had a 13 year relationship with Rita Perry that started after she sought counseling because she lost an infant in the late 1950s.  She suffered from depression and in the later 1960s had a lobotomy.  He was removed from ministry in December 2002 after his personnel file was released publicly, including

Peter Martin, a 23 year old substitute teacher, was arrested January 28, on charges he invited two 16 year old girls to a Wantagh home he was house-sitting, served them alcoholic beverages and sexually abused them.  He was charged with two counts each of sexual abuse and endangering the welfare of a child.  Martin, of 14 Edgewood Drive, Hicksville, was ordered to appear at First District Court in Hempstead on February 11.  The incident allegedly occurred about two weeks ago when he attended a play at Wantagh Senior High School

A 23 year old Westbury man, who police are not naming because doing so could identify thevictim, was arrested January 27 and charged with second degree rape for having sex with a 14 yearold girl. The man invited the girl into his room and had sex with her several times in November andDecember. The man is someone her family knew well. He pleaded not guilty at his arraignment and wasordered held in Nassau County jail in East Meadow in lieu of $10,000 bail.

A state appeals court has ruled that sex offenders who show that they can adhere to restrictions that would substantially reduce the risk of their committing further offenses can be authorized for release.  The ruling stems from a suit filed by a 68 year old man who was involuntarily committed to further custody after completing two prison terms for molesting young boys.  Although the decision, which was issued last week, did not order the man’s release, it did return the case to trial court.

Angelo Romero, a 20 year old special ed student at Staten Island’s New Dorp High School, has been charged with first and third degree rape and other sex charges in the brutal rape of a 15 year old girl in a bathroom at the school.  The attack allegedly occurred at 1:40 p.m. in a teachers lavatory on Wednesday during school hours.  The second floor bathroom is kept locked but Romero somehow got a key and pulled the alleged victim inside along with another male.  Romero then tried to force the

William Hernandez, 23, was convicted yesterday of brutally beating and raping 15 year old Sheinna Morales and then throwing her to her death from a 14 story Manhattan building.  He was found guilty of killing her on September 8, 2002.  Her nude and battered body was found the next morning in front of 219 E. 97th St. in the George Washington Houses.
